Lough Bran Holiday Cottage, Carrick-on-Shannon

Lough Bran Cottage
The holiday cottage is overlooking Lough Bran. It is set on a scenic site, remote from the hustle and bustle of life, yet still only three km from the county town of Carrick-on-Shannon (the main boating centre on the Shannon). Leitrim has a couple of miles of coastline, but is mainly an inland beauty spot, with rolling green hills, great lakes for fishing, pastures and boglands. It is a wonderful part of the world for seeing beautiful scenery and meeting lots of friendly, charming people who will make you feel welcome.

Area information

Carrick-on-Shannon is acknowledged nationally and internationally as an Anglers Paradise, and has hosted National and International Fishing Competitions. Within a 10km radius of the town are no fewer than 41 lakes, all of which are free, unrestricted and easily accessible. Lough Bran is sixty acres of easy access fishing. There are twenty fishing stands from which can be caught bream, hybrids, perch, pike, roach and tench.

There are hundreds of well stocked fishing lakes. Fishing on the Shannon is free. It is not just all about fishing, in this part of the world it is worth walking through the land, horseriding, and why not sample a few pints of Guiness in some of the many local pubs. There is also great shopping in Sligo. It is steeped in history - with castles and houses to visit a plenty.

A short drive away there is a modern leisure centre offering saunas, steam-room, plunge pool, solarium and a fully equipped gymnasium. Other facilities include the local equestrian centre and sports centre, which has squash courts and indoor basketball courts etc. Carrick's nightlife is lively all year round thanks to the town's friendly pubs and particularly during the summer period with river/music festivals a weekly occurrence.
